In 2015, artist and concerned citizen Sean Connaughty collected 69 bags of trash from Lake Hiawatha in Minneapolis. With help, he sorted and cataloged every item, then put them on display as a way to raise public awareness of the declining condition of the lake. Five informational banners were created to educate the public and rally support for an upcoming public meeting. Individuals were urged to take action by signing a petition and making a personal pledge, which was photographed and posted online to show community support.
