paying it forward

we believe in being the change we wish to see.

We founded Humbleweed Creative on the principles of designing for the good of the earth and helping to make our community a better place to live, work, and play. From the very beginning, Humbleweed Creative pledged to donate 5% of its earnings to local nonprofits that are working in the areas of environmental conservation and education, social justice, and building healthy communities. Each year, we choose a theme for our Pay It Forward campaign based on something that resonated with us personally or as a company during the year.

2017 New Beginnings
Being our first year in operation and our first-ever giving campaign, it seemed a natural fit to select three youth-focused organizations that are fostering the next generation of strong, compassionate, eco-minded leaders.

Environment: Urban Roots (Conservation Program)
Social Justice: TruArtSpeaks
Healthy Communities: Youth Farm MN

2018 Finding a Home
All summer we watched the homeless encampment grow at Franklin and Hiawatha Avenues in Minneapolis. We saw reports of storms and wildfires intensifying across the U.S. and the world due to climate change. We felt thankful to call Humbleweed “home” and wanted to help others find their home in our community and ensure that we take care of our shared home, Earth.

Environment: Climate Generation
Social Justice: Better Futures Minnesota
Healthy Communities: City of Lakes Community Land Trust

2019 Positive Energy
As we end this decade, we look forward with a positive outlook and renewed energy. We are inspired by the actions of organizations like these to reverse climate change and build more resilient, sustainable, and equitable communities.

Environment: Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center (Living Building Challenge)
Social Justice: Center for Earth Energy & Democracy
Healthy Communities: Rural Renewable Energy Alliance

2020 Transformation
This year changed not only how we live and work, but how we see the world. From a global pandemic to nationwide protests and calls for social justice after the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. We saw the systemic inequities. We felt the grief and outrage of the black community and our city. In June we pledged to support local BIPOC-led organizations working to collectively heal and transform our community.

Environment: MN Renewable Now (Solstar Project)
Social Justice: Headwaters Foundation for Justice
Healthy Communities: MN Healing Justice Network
